APDU: Introduction to Learning & Teaching: Initial training for Demonstrators and GTAs

Supporting the learning of undergraduates can be an extremely rewarding way for you to develop and refine your teaching and interpersonal skills. In this session, you will be introduced to the contextual and practical knowledge needed for you to carry out your role as a Demonstrator and as a Graduate Teaching Assistant (GTA).
Following this session, you will be given free access to the University Teaching: Core Skills online course. When you complete the recommended sections of this course, you will be able to download your certificate of attendance. You will not be able to access this online course before attending the training session. More information about this online course will be provided during the training session.
Aimed atDoctoral Researchers who have a contract to start their role as Demonstrators or GTAs this academic year
This session is for Brunel Doctoral Researchers who have a contract to start their role as Demonstrators or GTAs and have not attended previously.
Zoom link will be emailed to registered participants prior to the session
Key learning outcomes
By participating in this session and completing the recommended activities, you will
- Understand the UKPSF
- Be able to define pedagogy
- Understand the key components of learning and teaching in HE in relation to the Demonstrator and GTA roles
- Debate and recognise the key issues and policies relating to student performance
- Proactively engage in developing your practice and gaining formal recognition
