Doctoral Supervision - Inspiring Supervision for All Concerned

This session will explore the main frameworks of contemporary doctoral supervision, noting critical developments, making the implicit explicit and considering methods for making the process both productive and inspiring for all participants.

To ensure any pressing queries are dealt with, they can be shared in advance by emailing senthila.quirke@brunel.ac.uk in advance or by bringing them on a post-it note, one per query, to the beginning of the session.

Professor Emerita Pam M. Denicolo, University of Reading, a chartered psychologist and honorary pharmacist, is an advisor/consultant to universities worldwide on issues related to doctoral education

Key learning outcomes

Topics will include: selection for satisfaction; influences and inspirations; expectations and experiences; delivering criticism and handling conflict confidently; the importance and impact of supervision

Participants will gain the most by engaging in a dialogue, so they might care to consider in advance what their expectations/understandings are of the process and from whence they are derived. 

Health and Safety and general notice

Participants will be viewing presentations projected onto a SMART Board screen and working in small groups. Refreshments will be available.
