Introduction to Intellectual Property for Academic Research Workshop

The Research Support and Development Office (RSDO) is leading a virtual workshop covering Intellectual Property (IP) to explain how IP relates to academic research and the essential steps that need to be taken to protect it.

You will hear directly from Brunel University’s patent attorneys, at Williams Powell, who will introduce you to the many types of IP and give examples of where this is important. Application to the physical sciences, engineering, software, biological sciences and the creative arts will be covered. Brunel’s Royal Society Entrepreneur-in-Residence, Brunel Alumni and CEO of Oxford nanoSystems, Dr Alexander Reip, will talk about his journey to commercialisation success and how important attention to rigorous IP practice is. And RSDO’s Technology Transfer Manager, Lynette Holland, will give an overview of the dedicated resources and support available to you from the Research Support and Development Office at Brunel and the key “do’s and don’t’s” to navigate the IP and commercialisation process.

There will be plenty of time for Q&A and further consultation available following the workshop.
