MATLAB for Engineers: an introduction

This course will introduce the ways and methods those are available in Matlab programming environment for engineering applications.  The teaching will be hands-on and with very tailor made exercises which enable the learners to understand the benefits of programming capabilities of MATLAB for Engineering applications.

This session aims to cover the following areas:

  • Solving simple engineering problems
  • Solving simultaneous equations
  • Numerical computing
  • Image processing
  • Fourier analysis
  • Solving ordinary differential equations

Aimed at

Any postgraduate research students or research staff who are beginners to MATLAB and have attended the "Introduction to MATLAB" and "Programming Basics" workshops.

Key learning outcomes

​You will be able to:

  • create Matlab programs to solve mathematical equations
  • apply Matlab for image processing using both built-in functions and custom made functions
  • apply FFT routines for various applications
  • solve ordinary differential equations describing real world engineering problems
